Monster Rhymes

Monster Rhymes

This one is a favorite of my kids! What better way to practice rhymes than with MONSTERS! To do this activity create monsters out of cardboard boxes, brown paper grocery bags or any other materials you have. To save time, you can even print a picture of the monsters and simply glue them onto a brown lunch bag. Then, attach the ending sound labels to each bag. Cut out the picture cards and invite your kids to feed the monsters with the words that rhyme.

Many parents are surprised to learn that rhyming is an important skill to have before you child can begin reading. In fact, rhyming is a key indicator on how successful a child will be in early years of school. Lucky, most children enjoy rhyming activities and will pick it up naturally. First your child will learn to distinguish if two words rhyme. With enough practice, your child will later be able to come up with a rhyme on their own.
