I am sharing my children's favorite word family game of all time! It is called the Ice-Cream Game! (Yes, we eat ice-cream afterwards!) This game gives your child lots of practice with word families. Word families are groups of words with a predictable pattern or ending sound and makes learning a set of words easy for new readers.

Print the ice-cream game cards and give your child the card with the word family they are practicing for the week. Throughout the game, your child will stack ice-cream scoops on cones making real (and nonsense) words. They will feel incredibly successful as they see how many words that can read! There are two different ways to play the game and so you can decide which method works best for you child.
